waste of time and money

Well, as the book is too thin, it doesn't say anything. You can have all the info that is there by just asking a common person and surfing the internet. Other books are better, if you're a beginner this is OK. But if you need deeper answer or understanditng, this is a waste.

As Good As It Gets

For some reason, men are supposed to come out of the womb knowing every single thing about how their penises function, and this couldn't be further from the truth! Most young men haven't a clue about any STD that isn't AIDS, and less than nothing about testicular cancer(I almost lost one friend to this very ignorance!).
I went looking for an instructional manual for another friend of mine who really was....well, quite naive is a polite way to put it, and this was the best I could do. What men really, really need is a male version of Our Bodies, Ourselves, and having perused close to a hundred books, this is as good at is gets. I reccommend this book as a primer for teenagers and young men, especially in regards to disease and STD's...but no more.
Another problem is the expense; while it's the best that can be had, it really costs too much for such a thin book. I think the publisher or author may be capitalizing on the lack of other books in this area.

okay...but not great

there are many interesting tid-bits in this slim volume, unfortunately, the author, in a laudable attempt to provide comical/witty commentary, demonstrates a distinct in-ability to do so. in other words, she tries wa-a-ay too hard to be funny...and, she is not. still, if the reader is willing to wade through the unnecessary/uninspired verbage, some good information can be gleaned.
i should also say that ms. gore deserves credit for tackling such an...unusual subject, no doubt she raised a number of eyebrows when telling folks about the book...and i'm guessing there may have been some mild confusion over it's claim to be "an owner's manual"? seems a little, presumptious, margaret, unless there's something you're not telling us... : )

About the Author
William A. Corsaro was the Robert H. Shaffer Class of 1967 Endowed Chair of Sociology and is currently professor emeritus in the Department of Sociology at Indiana University, Bloomington, where he won the President s Award for Distinguished Teaching in 1988. He teaches courses on the Sociology of Childhood, Childhood in Contemporary Society, and Ethnographic Research Methods. His primary research interests are the Sociology of Childhood, Children s Peer Cultures, the Sociology of Education, and Ethnographic Research Methods. Corsaro is the author of "Friendship and Peer Culture in the Early Years" (1985), " We re Friends, Right: Inside Kids Culture" (2003), and "I Compagni: Understanding Children's Transition from Preschool to Elementary School" (2005, with Luisa Molinari). He was a Fulbright Senior Research Fellow in Bologna, Italy, from 1983-1984 and a Fulbright Senior Specialist Fellow in Trondheim, Norway in 2003. Corsaro was inaugural recipient of the Distinguished Career Award from the American Sociological Association Section on Children and Youth in 2013.

POTUS cousins

This was exactly what I wanted, a bit more than I was expecting. I previewed an older version from the Public Library, so I knew what was coming. The previous, apparently hand drawn to print Presidential relationship charts had been nicely upgraded into regular print flowcharts. Good bibliography citing sources. Anyone who thinks they are related to a president can search the name index for a possible connection. I have found six presidential (distant) cousins so far.

Cables and Lace Together In One -- An Innovative Approach

My wife got this book recently, and as an avid knitter she reads absolutely every knitting book that is published. She's admired Jennifer Wood for a LONG time and this book is exciting to see. The patterns here are simply amazing and she's now working on her first project from the book. What follows is a review based largely on what she thinks of this book, but I've added a few points as I also really admire the book.

First, a bit of background on Jennifer Wood who runs Wood House Knits. She has been designing since 2011 -- many of her patterns are on Ravelry. (Note that there is a group on Ravelry for the book. I love this as it tends to be a good place to get help. You can even see pictures of the objects in this book on Ravelry, which is great. I'm guessing that as time goes on, many will post variations of these patterns.) She's also published patterns in Interweave, so she has a good name for herself.

✔ What's Unique Here? '
The most interesting thing about this book is that she combines cables and lace. You typically see textured stitching and lace as separate things, but she does a great job of bringing those two domains together in some really elegant objects. Elegant is the word here, as these are very beautiful patterns. The nice thing about combining lace and cables is that you get more structure (from the cables) and yet still have drape (from the lace).

'✔ Inspiration? '
A cool part of this book is that Wood mentions that some of her ideas and innovations here actually come from Japanese stitch guides/dictionaries that she modifies. We don't know much about this knitting heritage, but the combo of cables and lace is certainly unique (in term of look and structure), so this origin is nice to have Wood acknowledge.

'✔ Books Sections? '
The book is broken into three main sections: 1) cables, 2) lace, and 3) the combo of the two -- she calls this "Aran Lace." Overall, we'd classify this knit book as a pattern book. However, there is a stitch glossary in the back and you can learn a lot from reading this book (and her pattern logic).

✔' Knitting Level? '
With many advanced techniques such as short rows, cabling, set-in sleeves, compound raglan construction, and lace work, we'd say this is a book for moderate to advanced knitters. The sweaters are top-down. With that said, there are a few things here for beginners. Even if you're a beginner cabler or new to lace knitting, there are projects in this book that allow you to get into this kind of hybrid knitting. For instance, the "Elodie" and "Louisa" designs are more for beginners.

✔' Book Quality Itself? '
This book is from Interweave press, and is a really nice object (as a book itself). The pictures are well lit, the pages feel good, and the printing is high-quality. This is not a cheapo on-demand book or anything like that. It's really pretty to hold and flip through.

✔' Pattern Legibility? '
This is a book with charted patterns. This means that you need to be able to read charts to get through the patterns. The cables and lace sections are not written out, so you have to follow the charts. As for pattern legibility, we'd say that that these patterns are easy to follow and accurate. We mention this because it's a pet peeve of mine when knit books.

✔' Sizes? '
She also includes really clear diagrams with measurements, which is something I like: in her patterns she goes from 33" bust to 54-and-1/4" bust circumference. We're sure experienced could go beyond her sizes and modify these patterns. She covers cardigans and pullovers, shawls, and other accessories (cowls, mittens, a hat). As I said, the sweaters are all top-down.

✔' Any Critiques? '
The photos and/or modeling of the objects looks a little bit dated. We're not saying the actual knit wear is dated, just the photos and modeling. It almost looks like it could be from the 1980s at some times. This is not a critique of the knits, just some of the art direction.

Overall, we'd say that this is one of the more exciting recent knitting books. Mixing lace and cable in this book is really beautiful, and Wood really takes that up a notch in this pattern.

A book full of lovely, wearable knits!

I don't think I've ever left a review before. I'm a 20 year knitter with a bookcase full of knitting books. When I purchase a knitting book, I hope to find 3 patterns that I'll knit. I love EVERY pattern in this book. I want to sell my stash so I can buy the perfect yarn for each pattern and spend the next year knitting each one. While each pattern has a large sizing range, these patterns make me want to lose weight so the finished items will be even more flattering! Obviously, I highly recommend this book - there are lots of pictures of each item from different angles and the patterns and charts are well thought out - Bravo!

This is my favorite of the series!

Grace Wilson meets Maxmilian MacMillian head of one of the most popular bands worldwide, but she is not so impressed with this fabulous looking man. Max knows this woman is to be his mate, and he sets about finding Grace again and also is intent on making Grace his own. He has his work set out for him. Grace has just lost her job and broken up with her boyfriend...... Max is sure this gal is going to fall at his feet and be so impressed with him that he just needs to find her and he is sure she will be so taken with him that she will wish to e with him. Grace finds him to be arrogant and he takes the people who work for him or wait on him for granted and he doesn't seem a bit thankful for their service. For her that is a real turn off and she just isn't interested in him but he just won't go away! These two have a lot to teach each other and do. I think this is a favorite of the series for me. I love it when men need and deserve to be taken down a peg! LOL There is so much that Max is keeping from Grace and she just isn't happy about that. People in a relationship shouldn't keep secrets from each other, that is Grace's belief! Max is put through a lot of changes to hang on to the woman of his dreams, his mate....

He is a rock star that has lived for centuries and holds a dark secret hidden deep inside. She is his mate, the one woman he has waited for to complete him. Sounds like the perfect scene for an immediate HEA! In this the fourth book in Tracey Jane Jackson’s Cauld Ane Series, we are once again drawn into the immortal world of the ‘Cold Ones’.

Maximilian MacMillan is use to adoration and women falling at his feet, so when he meets his mate, he expected nothing less. The only problem is Grace is human, has a boyfriend, and she has not reached her twenty-fifth birthday. That is the age when all Cauld Ane can recognize their mates. Plus Max has to convince her to give him a chance. Her impression of him is not all that good and with the added media chatter about him being a man whore, he really has his work cut out.

Grace Wilson however, is immune to his gifts and even though she is attracted to the talented musician, she keeps him at arm’s length. How can this rock god possible like, an ordinary girl like her? She is a good girl, believes in God and well Max is not sure about what he believes in. Can these two very different people find a way to overcome their issues? The more time Grace spends with Max, the more he opens up and shares the real man behind his rock star mask!

Once again Ms. Jackson weaves a tale of immortal beings and humans finding their way to forever love! I cannot wait to read the next book in this series.

Loved it

Loved this book and love this series. As Tracey expands this family you get to know them and love them. All the books go in a different direction so you are never bored. This one took a turn I did not expect and it was awesome. My requirement for me to take the time to write a review is that the author can tell a good story and this author fits the bill. This series is something I look to see if there is anything new. I love it and I love Tracey's writing. I will wait patiently to see who I learn more about next time.

Desdel el primer momento que empec� a leer me cautiv� totalmente hasta el final!
Cada personaje que aparece a lo largo del libro tiene su propio momento protag�nico que hacen un gran conjunto en esta novela.
Los personajes protag�nicos me enamoraron; pasan por diversas dificultades en las que junto con sus amigos llegan a formar una gran familia.
Re�, me emocion� hasta casi llorar, y sin duda qued� feliz con el final.
