About the Author
Chris Considine Armed with a double major in finance and marketing
at USC, where he worked as lead food-service provider
for the Faculty Center, Chris followed his passion to excel in the
highly charged customer service environment of some of L.A.'s top
restaurants for eight years.
In the 1980s, he brought this expertise into a new work partnership
with a great salesman, speaker, storyteller ... and father, Ray
Considine. For more than 20 years, Chris ran the business side
of Considine and Associates. As an audio-visual producer and
photographer, he also developed creative, exciting visual presentations
for corporations and associations throughout the world, many of them
Ray's clients.
Chris' imagination and execution shine through his photographic
work for clients such as Disney, Teledyne, Direct TV, US Life, and
his award-winning photography has even graced Oscar posters. Over
the past decade, Chris has concentrated on photographing Southern
California architecture, elevating residential real estate industry
marketing to a new level of excellence through his high-quality interior
and exterior home images and stellar customer service.
Since Ray's death, Chris has resurrected the WAYMISH message
by creating a new video training package with CRM Learning, and
updating the WAYMISH book with Ted Cohn. He recently brought in
Lee Tomlinson to present the WAYMISH message to new audiences
and contribute three chapters to the WAYMISH book, ensuring that

WAYMISH

This is a compact, straightforward book about making it ever so easy to do business with any client or customer. It is about creating an atmosphere with the client, hopefully a purchaser of your product or service, where they want to do business with you. That sounds easy, but it isn't always so. The author(s) create and remind the reader of real-life situations where for a multitude of reasons, the client or customer will not choose to do buy from you or your business. The book points out lots of dumb stuff that businesses do to us everyday, like saying "we value your business" while we wait on an indefinite telephone hold, or the classic, "that's not our policy". WAYMISH wants the reader to make changes in how they do business, in order to build the business! Great, fast read.

A simple boot to the head

It is so simple in concept, but no one else wrote a book that earns five star reviews.

The illustrations are great and not overdone as in most business books (most business books just mention Starbucks and Apple and finish with Zappos).

The idea is simple that you just need to stop making it hard for people to give you money. Simple.

A great read on the Kindle.

Good textbook

I was assigned this textbook in a class I took that was taught by James W. Mayer himself. Though we never used the book in the class, I read it myself and was quite impressed with it. The book is very understandable for anyone having taken freshman physics and chemistry in college. It gives a good introduction to the science and technology of semiconductors; emphasis on silicon and gallium arsenide substrates of course. The pages are chock full of figures and diagrams, and there is a lot of equations that are well-explained. Overall, a good textbook to use for learning about semiconductors.

Good and expalins well

I found that this book explained the necessary and important concepts well. It's a good book as an introduction to Semiconductors, especially if you need to understand the concepts before you go into the deeper stuff. It also provides the mathematics on deriving some of the equations without expecting the reader to already to know how the equations came about. Good for undergraduates & graduates who are starting to take stuff in this field.

INTRUSION DETECTION AND CORRELATION: Challenges and Solutions presents intrusion detection systems (IDSs) and addresses the problem of managing and correlating the alerts produced.� This volume discusses the role of intrusion detection in the realm of network security with comparisons to traditional methods such as firewalls and cryptography.�

The Internet is omnipresent and companies have increasingly put critical resources online.� This has given rise to the activities of cyber criminals. Virtually all organizations face increasing threats to their networks and the services they provide.� Intrusion detection systems (IDSs) take increased pounding for failing to meet the expectations researchers and IDS vendors continually raise.� Promises that IDSs are capable of reliably identifying malicious activity in large networks were premature and never tuned into reality.�

While virus scanners and firewalls have visible benefits and remain virtually unnoticed during normal operations, the situation is different with intrusion detection sensors.� State-of-the-art IDSs produce hundreds or even thousands of alerts every day.� Unfortunately, almost all of these alerts are false positives, that is, they are not related to security-relevant incidents.

Nice overview--and good for history fans also

This isn't the best collection of Atget's work, but it was a great buy at the price, I thought, and the reproductions (in my copy at least) are decent. Anyone interested in history might also find it interesting to see what Paris looked like in Atget's day.

Old Dragon

This is my very favorite book of black & white photographs. The massive dragon gargoyle over the entrance to 50 Rue Du Rennes pictured on the left is now in the Garden Room of the Louvre. Nothing else is left of Rue Du Rennes, which ran through to Rue Dragon, which is still there.

exquisite photos and commentary

I have been intrigued by Atget for decades; his sense of grayscale (before grayscale was even invented), the depth of field, the sense of time and place, his aurora of light, the emptiness but completeness of his photos and the romance of an old man trudging around predawn Paris with a weighty camera and tripod on his back. This small beautiful book contains some of Atget's best photographs; printed on heavy weight paper; each photo sharp and clear, keyed to an address in Paris. Wilfried Weigand's superb commentary introduces the reader to Atget's life on rue Campagne Premier, his link to the photographic past of French photographers Marville and Balthus, and, Atget's artistic legacy preserved and brought to prominence by Man Ray and Bernice Abbott who shot three photographic portraits of Atget before his death in 1927. Her straight on portrait of the old man graces the back of this book. Abbott then wisely bought up many of his photographs and negatives ultimately selling them to the Museum of Modern Art and thus bringing his genius to the photographic loving world.

Lose the Weight, Regain your Health!

Great book! I've lost 75 pounds in less than a year on this way of eating! I just got rid of the oil when my weight loss slowed down! My type 2 diabetes is under control with 10u of Lantus insulin, BP is now 117/76 from 132/86, my eyesight has improved dramatically and had to get new glasses. My inflammatory arthritis has improved to where I no longer need Hydrocodone for the pain, just 1 aspirin twice a day. My chronic headaches have disappeared and I'm off all medications and vitamins which saves me hundreds of dollars each month!

I have followed a Whole foods, plant based, no oil diet and have NEVER been hungry or left the table unsatisfied. I have followed the outlines of Dr. McDougall's way of eating and will never again follow the Standard American Diet that promoted the illnesses in me. Thank you, Dr. McDougall for leading me in the right direction after so many years of yo-yo dieting! I am well on my way to health, by following your simple guidelines!

Here's your longevity reading list

If you are on any medications for chronic conditions, I think you should read Dr. Michael Greger's book "How Not to Die."
Even if you are not on medications, read Dr. Greger's book.

For the simplest blueprint of a solid shot at reaching age 95, I think you should read Dr. John McDougall's book "The Starch Solution." The blueprint is as follows: eliminate meat, dairy, eggs and separated oils, eat all you want of the satiating complex-starch-centered foods (always prepared without separated oils). This is an excellent level of achievement for the masses that removes the killers and satisfies your appetite.

If you want to zoom past age 95 and shoot for age 115, then you're going to have to intelligently diversify your plant diet and embrace the micronutrient fine tuning of Dr. Joel Fuhrman's book "Eat to Live." Dr. Fuhrman is right on. Here again, you'll also reference Dr. Greger's book all the way. Both have a key daily list.

Bring it all together by frequently visiting Dr. Greger's website. Dr. Greger scours the tens of thousands of annual journal articles on health and nutrition and keeps us fully up to date. Dr. Greger practices solid first-principle, fact-based logic of the type normally seen in physicists more than in physicians. Dr. Greger is smart and never fooled by poorly designed cohort studies and the red herrings of others' bad assumptions. Dr. Greger presents topical summaries in short videos that are rich in information and delivered often with classic humor.

I suspect if we applied these dietary principles to our children from birth, then they'll have a legitimate shot at living to 145.

I personally see Dr. McDougall's book as "what not to eat" supported with the easiest version of "eat this instead." I think of his message as the coarse-tuning knob on an analog radio. Honestly, most people will only accept the coarse adjustment, thus making Dr. McDougall's contribution valuable for the masses. He seems to think about things from a societal-success level and his starch emphasis is good for the dietary success of the group.

However, if you want more than just what works well for the masses, if you really want to master nutritional dietary success, then, in my opinion, I suggest one think of Drs. Greger's and Fuhrman's input as the fine-tuned guidance (a little more attention to leafy greens, cruciferous veg, berries, other fruit, etc), like the fine-tuning knob on the analog radio.

Dr. McDougall will get you out of disease and to the comparative-health olympics; Drs. Fuhrman and Greger will put you on the medals podium at those olympics.

Some authors in this field present strong counsel against supplements. Still, all agree on B-12 and ground flax seed (for omega-3). However, I think Dr. Greger presents the most well-thought case on D-3. I strongly appreciate dietary and health logic that reaches deeper in time all the way back to my evolutionary, metabolic ancestors. Yes, we developed higher amylase production over time and became very starchivore-leaning; however, the foundation of our metabolism still seems solidly to be that of Vitamin-C-needing frugivores, best served by D-3 production at Equatorial Africa levels.

I think it is most accurate to say that we are true Frugivore-Starchivore Hybrids. Some authors may focus more on the Starchivore side of us. Other authors may focus more on the Frugivore side of us. Neither point of view is wrong. We’re just hybrids.

If I had to name names, I’d say Dr. McDougall is Starchivore-oriented, Dr. Fuhrman is Frugivore-oriented, Dr. Greger is hitting that Hybrid sweet spot, and all three authors and all three books mentioned here present an excellent overall collection of information that helps any interested reader find their own particular version of the Hybrid sweet spot that works best for them.

The Longevity Path then…
1. Eliminate the known killers ('cause they're killing you.)
2. Lean on the Starchivore side of your metabolic heritage and enjoy all those satisfying starches while reminding your taste buds and body that you actually do, in fact, quite enjoy eating plants!
3. And, for that fraction of you with the extra measure of desire for excellence, move deeper into your Frugivore roots by intelligently fine-tuning your nutrient supply and efficiency.

Finally, big kudos to Drs. T. Colin Campbell, Caldwell Esselstyn, and Neal Barnard among many others for their equally excellent books and leadership in this field.

If you write, you NEED this book.

When I'm not writing, I'm editing. I'm a contract editor for a publisher. I also edit for friends and friends of friends in between assignments, and in between those assignments and requests, I edit myself. One thing editing has taught me is to be hyperaware of not making the same mistakes as the writers that I'm editing. While my job is primarily about spotting continuity errors, applying duct tape to plot holes and fact checking, I also try to clean up the grammar and punctuation as much as I can.

I've had many writers tell me that they do not remember how to properly use commas and other punctuation marks. I've had some tell me that expecting them to use them between independent clauses isn't required anymore--well it is. I've had others blink at me like a deer in the headlights when I tell them that a semicolon should be used instead when there is no conjunction.

I read books on grammar. It's part of my job. It's me making sure that I am not sending my editors a nightmare. You cannot trust Word to put a green line under all your grammatical errors, because when it comes to commas, Word is frequently wrong.

This little 99 cent book is wonderful. Grammar Girl breaks punctuation down in plain English, and she gets the message across about how it should be done with simple examples. Any one who writes or edits should buy this book. It will never leave my Kindle.

It has replaced English Simplified as my favorite book for punctuation and grammar, and not just because English Simplified is overpriced because it's a textbook. You don't feel like you're in English 101 with some grad student browbeating you for leaving out a comma with Grammar Girl's Punctuation 911. If you write, you can't afford not to buy and read this book.

Good, Fun Book to read -- Needs Navigation

This is a really great book, and a fun read. It covers the Boring subject of punctuation in a fun, easy to understand manner. It is very instructional and not the least bit "stuffy." Unfortunately, it really should have some sort of way to look up subjects! A simple `Table of Contents' would honestly help make finding a specific subject much easier. As it is, you will have to read through the entire book and add your own bookmarks. The Kindle's search function works, but is little help on a specific subject.
