The scene is a stark motel room at the edge of the Mojave Desert. May, a disheveled young woman, sits dejectedly on a rumpled bed while Eddie, a rough-spoken rodeo performer, crouches in a corner fiddling with his riding gear. When he attempts to console May, who is distressed by Eddie's frequent absences and love affairs, she seems, at first, to soften but then she suddenly attacks him. As the recriminations pour out, and the action becomes, at times, physically violent, the desperate nature of their relationship becomes apparent they cannot get along with, or without, one another, yet neither can subdue their burning passion. The poignancy of their situation (they are half-brother and half-sister as well as lovers) is pointed out by the play's two other characters: a hapless young man who stops by to take May to the movies and becomes the butt of Eddie's funniest yet most humiliating jokes; and a ghostly old man (perhaps their father) who sits in a rocking chair at the side of the stage, sipping whiskey and commenting wryly on what he observes. Eventually May and Eddie tire of their struggle and embrace but it is evident that the respite is temporary and that their love, the curse of the past which haunts them, will remain forever damned and hopeless.

As life recycles itself

If you are new to the work of Sam Shepherd, this award winning one-act play is a good one to begin, as some of his work can be rather complicated. Shepherd, a writer, director, and actor has won the Pulitzer Prize for Buried Child, another dark, moving, dramatic play. Like many of Shepherd's plays, Fool for Love may require a re-read. It is known that the play has autobiographical elements.

Fool for Love is a dynamic, hard thrusting, tense play that is meant to be performed without a break. The play is filled with love, hate, anger, betrayal, lust, abandonment, co-dependence and most important, a very sordid relationship that is shocking. One important symbolic element is the walls of the motel suggesting confinement, perhaps in their relationship, and the frequent banging against those walls is symbolic of the hard-hitting relationship.

The setting is a seedy motel room in the Mojave desert in the early 80s Eddie a hard drinking cowboy and May, in her 30s, is proven to be strong, but her weakness and vulnerability project in her 15 year love-hate relationship with Eddie. Now, Eddie has come to the motel where she lives to reclaim the love he has for her. Martin is a young innocent gentleman caller who arrives at the motel for a date with May, unbeknown to him what lies ahead. And, the fourth character is in the minds of Eddie and May, The Old Man, whose role is to be another voice of the haunted past.

From the time Eddie arrives to reclaim May, the problems arise as they forever will in that relationship. May is hurt by his leaving so often and cheating.

Now, May is waiting for a gentleman date and it is here that Eddie begins to toy with the simple Martin, who is in for an earful and teasing from Eddie. Thus, begins the emotional journey.

The play is filled with conflict and action, complete with a firey climax. There are few lengthy monologues. It is about lives recycling within lives. What has happened to Eddie and May has surely happened before, except in the eyes of their parents. Life does recycle itself.

If you have not seen the movie version, Fool for Love Sam Sheperd and Kim Basinger star as Eddie and May. Like most major and great drama, I would encourage you to read the play first. Excellent dramatic play....Rizzo

Fabulous Rock Star Romance!

It’s rare to find a contemporary romance that is equally hilarious, steamy, and touching, but Carol Pavliska’s debut, Color Me Crazy, has got it all. I laughed out loud too many times to count, even though parts of the story are heart-wrenching. It was fascinating to see the life of a rock star done honestly, without romanticizing the negative sides of the music industry. Yet, the music itself that Julian lives and breathes is definitely celebrated. Julian is my favorite character, with his synesthesia deftly woven into the story without being overblown. The characters are so well-developed that I feel like I know them personally—I sure hope to see more of them in the future. This book reminded me a bit of Susan Elizabeth Phillips, only funnier, sexier, and edgier. I loved the story and can’t wait to read more by Ms. Pavliska.

I don't usually read steamy romance novels, but I couldn't put Color Me Crazy down! Cleo and Julian are both well-written, well-developed characters. I was impressed with the author's description and treatment of synesthesia, and that she would even create a character with synesthesia, because there aren't that many of us around. The dialogue is clever, the characters are believable, and the storyline is solid. And the CHEMISTRY! Bravo to Carol Pavliska for an outstanding first novel... Can't wait to read more of her work in the future!

My love for this book runs deep!

Not only is this story a humorous, super-hot romance with amazing characters who have truly believable flaws and outrageous quirks (ones that kept me smiling or laughing throughout), but it's well-written and I.COULD.NOT.PUT.IT.DOWN. I've read this awesome story countless times already and can't seem to get enough of it. I regret nothing.

Chen Zhenglei (yes, it's no accident that his family name is that of the creators of Taichi) is a 19th generation descendant of the Chen family and an 11th generation direct line inheritor of Chen's Taichi. Priddy Wipe Clean Pirate Activity Book

Good book to take out or have in the car. Perfect for pre-K and K age. My 4 year old likes it, has helped to develop pen control as well as basic math and vocabulary skills. Only thing I wish is that the pen is attached to the book...I ended up tying a piece of string to the cap and attaching it to the book, still not the best as I'd prefer the actual pen attached but better as long as your child always capped the pen.

the material was easy to read

I have just retired from 25 years in the Police forces and I am opening a PI business next month. The author is obviously a person who knows very well the security system. In other words, the material was easy to read, very understandable. He uses multiple examples in the book to illustrate his points. Other books which I have read, have relevant information, but none of them have presented their material as clearly as this one. After I have read this book, I feel I better understand what it takes to be a good PI. If you are considering going into the business of PI work, this is a must for your book shelf!

If you were ever wondering what it would take to become a private investigator, look no further than this book. There is a bunch of good information in here to get you started on your path to be the next Philip Marlowe (you know, Humphrey Bogart in all those film noir movies?) There is a fair amount of preparation that goes into being a private investigator. Are you qualified? What do you need to do to become qualified? It's all in here. Beyond the act of getting a license and the required red tape one has to cross, there is information about liability, field techniques, investigations and surveillance included in the book.
