About the Author
William Scott-Elliot (sometimes incorrectly spelled Scott-Elliott) (1849-1919) was a theosophist who elaborated Helena Blavatsky's concept of root races in several publications, most notably The Story of Atlantis (1896) and The Lost Lemuria (1904), later combined in 1925 into a single volume called The Story of Atlantis and the Lost Lemuria.

Very Interesting

The author writes this book w/a lot of facts based on verifiable data. It really gives you an in depth look at the history of life on this planet. A history you won't find in any public schools! I am not sure how much is really true, but it sure makes you think about how everything has evolved. . . I am really disappointed that the map links don't work on the Kindle. They are referred to a lot in the book and I could not see them.

historical data from a lost era?

I'm not sure if this book is fiction or non-fiction, but it reads as if the author knew what he was talking about. I find the book very interesting and found myself reading most of it in one sitting. I give the book 4 stars because the MAP links on the Kindle edition don't work. They speak a lot about maps and have links in the book but I can't see them when clicked on! Hope this is fixed soon.

Excellent Book

This is by far the best book I've read on Atlantis so far, and it was free on my Kindle! Of course after reading it I bought the hard copy because the Kindle copy doesn't have the pictures of the maps in it.
To understand how the information on this book came about, you'd have to know what Theosophy was all about. The writer quotes Madame Blavatsky, a woman who had access to the ancient books of our past, along with ancient maps showing the world thousands of years ago. From what little I know about Theosophy, it's a group of intellectual/spiritual people who want to preserve human knowledge, and hone their esoteric skills in order to see into other dimensions.
The information this groups comes away with, such as this book, shine with the light of truth, at least for me. I've read countless books on Atlantis, but this book gives details that I've only seen in past-life regression work. But what's truly amazing, is that as far as the time tables for Atlantis, what brought about her fall, none of the information I've read ever contradicts itself.
The Story of Atlantis and the Lost Lemuria tells the story of human spirits coming into physical bodies at the beginning of time. Apparently our bodies started out in a pretty hideous way. We literally had an eye in the back of our heads where hair didn't grow, we had some sort of spur on our heels that allowed us to walk backwards, and our bodies were soft and gelatinous. Did I mention a roll of flesh around our heads that we hung decorative things off of? This reminds of me of the headbands that primitive tribes wear even today.
This book tells how humanity has an evolutionary stage of an octave(seven notes) where we first go down into the physical world, yet retain our ability to see the spiritual world(our home), all the way to pure physicality(the farthest we are from God) and then back up the ladder until we allow all of our spiritual essence into our physical bodies. We are currently in the fifth stage of evolution which corresponds to the Hopi saying we are in the fifth world. I love the way it all fits together like this.
Though relatively short, this book, written in 1925, has more wisdom in it than the volumes of history we now enjoy, or not, as most high school students will tell you. Maybe if we taught history from books like these, kids would enjoy it more.
If you're interested in Atlantis, this book is one of the best, especially if you pair it with Rudolf Steiner's book on Atlantis.
