A modern take on classic fairy tales !

Let me start by saying, this book is an easy read, short but captivating. It can easily be finished in a day, but that doesn't mean it won't leave an impression. The morals in these tales are those we know all too well, but unlike the ones we read as kids, these morals are more relatable. Love conquers all, and not judging a person simply by appearance is a common theme in these fairy tales, but with a modern edge, where women have reached their perceived happiness ( wealth, independence, or contentment) there is always something more that is needed to enrich their lives. Which can be compared to our own society which pits success over other aspects of our lives. Perhaps this is why this collection of stories speaks to me, a romantic at heart, I was truly touched by each tale. The author wrote each one beautifully and crafted each story in fantasyesque style. You can definitely get a glimpse of the author's soul while reading, and understand where her heart is, if only a little bit. I really enjoyed this book, and look forward to her other works as well.
I believe this collection is good for anyone with an open mind and heart, those who enjoy fairy tales, those who like modern twists and anyone who wants a quick and good read. Just read it, and see for yourself!

Junior high grammar and sophomoric plot revisions

The retold fairy tales were unoriginal, with simplistic and unfunny elements of parody contrived for the modern lesbian orientation. .
Composition was further enfeebled by clumsy wording and frequent grammatical errors: "There once was a couple whom wanted to have a child." REALLY!! There's no excuse for this.
For fresher takes, read some of the Ellen Datlow /Terry Windling anthologies, or Charles de Lint.
