Way off base with ending of book!

When I first began to read this play, I loved it. Lots of action and great characters. However, the ending of the script is WAY off base and NOTHING like the end of The Hobbit book by J.R.R. Tolkien.
In Tolkien's book:
1. Bard kills Smaug.
2. Thorin dies.
3. Kili and Fili die.
4. There is a huge battle for the rights to the treasure.
In the script:
1. Thorin kills Smaug.
2. Thorin lives happily ever after.
3. Everyone lives.
4. There is no battle over the treasure. Everyone just nicely divides the treasures without any problems.
5. There is no mention of the wolves, the eagles, Beorn or the spiders. I know that everything can't be included, but she should have at least mentioned them.
Too bad that the ending is so wrong. I would have loved to produce this play, but it is too far removed from the book.

I am sure you have either heard of or read J.R.R. Tolkien's great fantasy classic The Hobbit, but I will tell you about it anyways. Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit(smaller, chubbier folk who have six meals a day, and have very hairy feet) who is living a very easy, relaxing life in his home at Bag End. One fine morning while Bilbo is puffing his smokepipe, the mysterious wizard Gandalf comes along with a band of 13 homeless dwarves asking Bilbo to be the fourteenth member of their adventure through dangerous forests, giant spiders, menacing trolls, savage wolves, and other unknown dangers! Bilbo is persuaded to go and finally it will be Bilbo alone to face the fear of an entire countryside, the great dragon Smaug! J.R.R. Tolkien brilliantly takes you through a marvelous fantasy world in Middle Earth as Bilbo and friends go on their epic adventure. There are plenty of amazing settings and wild creatures. He keeps you on the edge of your seat as Bilbo and company pull off one miracle after another. The copy of The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien that I read was published in 1982 by Ballentine Books. It is meant for older readers, but I think younger people would get a kick out of it also. I give this book a 10 and anyone who wants to read an excellent book should read it.

A One-of-a-Kind Story

The first time I read The Hobbit I was eleven years old, and I was in the fifth grade.I Have read the book about five times since then. All of J.R.R Tolkien's books are excellant, one-of-a-kind, and very creative. Tolkien knows how to write an inspirational fantasy novel. For all fantasy lovers everywhere, The Hobbit, as well as all the books in the Lord of the Rings trilogy are a must have item for you.
One of the things I love most about The Hobbit is that the book is suitable for all ages. Little children would delight in this magical story and the adventures of bilbo baggins, the wizard Gandalf, and the rest of thier dwarf companions. The story is suspenseful and exciting, and also contains the excitement of a large-scale medevil battle, which adds to the excitement of the wonderful ending.
Besides being very well thought out, the book also is very descriptive. Tolkien gives the reader every oppertunity to use his or her imagination to the fullest. I personally recommend that one always read the novel by Tolkien before witnessing a film or cartoon based on his writings. No one can tell an enchanting story like Tolkien. The book is more complete than the cartoon or the film, and this gives readers a chance to better understand the characters and overall story details. It is better to experience the story from the vison of the creator rather than to view something used to imitate that which he created.
Anyone who enjoys literature will regret not reading The Hobbit. It is a magnificent story even if you do not have quite the acute taste for fantasy. The Story contains some valuable life-lessons. The Hobbit is definitely a brilliant story that all readers must experience at least once in thier lifetime.
